Telephones

Which phones should I use with my Xiophone System?
We offer a full range of telephones that are tailor-made to work with Xiophone, but you're not tied to our phones. Xiophone also works with selected IP phones and softphones. Xiophone can work with any regular analog phones as well with an adapter.

Do multi-line ip phones work with Xiophone?
Yes, this is handy for Receptionist consoles that need to monitor many extensions.

Most two-line phones have separate plug-ins for two incoming telephone lines (line 1 and line 2). With IP phones you only need one connection.

Does Xiophone work with soft phones?
Yes, X-Lite is one of the most popular.

What type of headsets work with Xiophone?
Xiophone works with any standard amplified wired or wireless headset. Most popular are manufactured by Plantronics, GN Netcom, Addcom, Accutone and VXI.

Installation

What is the difference between extensions and lines?
Lines are the connections to the telephone network supplied to you by the Xiophone network. Extensions are the telephones attached to telephone lines. Xiophone allows many extensions to use the same line. An Inter-office call would be from one extension to another extension in the same company.

For example, if you have 2 telephone lines connected to your Xiophone system, 2 people can make outbound or take inbound calls at the same time. While they're on the phone, the remaining extensions can speak to each other or retrieve voicemail, but anyone trying to make an outbound call would hear a rapid busy signal.

Can I install Xiophone myself?
Yes, and many Xiophone customers do. Xiophone installation is designed to be simple enough that customers can do it themselves. The complexity of the installation depends on the wiring in your office. It is particularly straightforward in any new office building with typical "star" wiring. If this is the case, you will only need to plug in your phones. Alternatively, you can hire a contractor to install the cat5 network.

Call Handling and Messaging

What happens if all the phone lines are in use?
As with any phone system, you can only make or receive as many simultaneous phone calls as you have phone lines. If all your lines are in use, incoming callers will receive a busy signal, and further extensions will be unable to make external calls.

How do extensions outside of the company work?
Xiophone extensions allow you to stay connected anywhere. Extensions are connected through the internet, no matter the location in the world will act just like extentions in your home office.

Does Xiophone automatically detect faxes?
Yes, you can have a separate fax number that send faxes to a given email address. Please make a request for this feature.

Can Xiophone handle incoming calls differently after hours?
Yes. With Time Conditions, multiple sets of call answering options can be set up. You can greet callers with one message during business hours, a different one after hours and another on holidays. After-hours calls can also be routed to available staff, a different number, or directly to voicemail.

Does Xiophone work with call waiting?
Yes, and with caller id as well.

What is follow me?
Follow me is a powerful, flexible feature of Xiophone that routes calls through a series of options if the targeted extension isn't available. Follow me settings can be configured to ring other extensions, remote extensions or ring groups, or it can send calls to another announcement or to voicemail. Different call follow me settings can be triggered depending on whether the target extension is busy, not answered, on "do not disturb" or screens the call.

t

Expansion and Upgradability

How many extensions can I add?
As many as you want, but remember you are limited to how many calls can be made outside of your office system.

Can I upgrade the capacity of my Xiophone?
As your company grows, you may want to upgrade. That can be done seemlessly. Simply drop us an email letting us know, and we'll be happy to ad the needed compacity.

t

Using VoIP

How does Xiophone work with VoIP?
VoIP-enabled Xiophone systems use the Internet to make calls, which can improve your integration over multiple locations and save you money. Xiophone uses VoIP to seamlessly, cost-effectively connect locations. As with any IP PBX, VoIP-enabled Xiophone systems requireuser provided broadband connections.

Does Xiophone work in overseas locations?
Xiophone is currently in use in many countries outside of North America. We are experts at bringing together multiple locations into one seemless virtual office.

General

What is the difference between PBX and key systems?
Private Branch Exchange (PBX) and Key systems allow their users to share telephone company lines between multiple telephone users. PBX systems automate this function and typically offer many additional features. Xiophone is a PBX system that is hosted in a secure data center.
